Nikon J1 adalah kamera mirrorless dari brand seri baru Nikon 1 yang kompak dengan fitur Hybrid autofocus (menggabungkan deteksi fasa dan deteksi kontras AF) yang memungkinkan kamera untuk mengambil gambar hingga 10 frame-per-detik dengan autofocus.
Nikon J1 ini hanya memiliki shutter elektronik, membatasi kecepatan sync ke 1/60th per detik tetapi memungkinkan kecepatan rana hingga 1/16000th per detik. Kamera ini menggunakan basis tipe Nikon 1 berukuran 13.2mm x 8.8mm dengan 10MP sensor CMOS. Seperti saudaranya yaitu Nikon V1, kamera iini dapat merekam video 1080 px FULL HD. Nikon J1 dengan kit lensa 10-30mm (27-81mm equiv.) akan diberi harga $ 649,95. Rencananya Nikon J1 diharapkan tiba di AS sekitar 20 Oktober 2011.
Kamera ini memiliki 73 poin sistem focal plane phase detection autofocus dan 135 poin untuk deteksi kontras di mana kamera ini juga mampu berganti antara deteksi phase dan deteksi kontras Auto Focus sesuai scene dan diklain memiliki autofokus tercepat dengan disenjatai Nikon EXPEED 3 image processing engine dengan prosesor image dual core yang juga menawarkan performa pemrosesan low noise dan efisiensi batere Lithium-ion.
Mesin pengolahan bekerja bersama format Nikon baru CX (13,2 x 8.8mm) 10.1 megapixel AF Kecepatan Tinggi CMOS sensor dengan ISO 100-3200 (yang dapat diperluas untuk ISO6400) yang mengatakan untuk memberikan sudut gambar sekitar 2,7 x panjang fokal lensa .
LCD Nikon J1 berukuran 3.0-inch dengan 460,000. Ada juga fitur super slow motion dengan kecepatan 400 sampai 1200 fps.
Nikon J1 ditawarkan dalam warna putih, pink, merah, silver dan hitam.
